¨Sire of the Century¨
Nimmerdor was foaled in 1972 and was bought as a 2 1/2 year old by Wiepke van de Lageweg, founder of the famous VDL Stud. At the time he was only a hobby breeder, but with the purchase of Nimmerdor, the future success of the VDL Stud was set in motion.
When Nimmerdor was performance tested, he clearly excelled at jumping, and so began his steady progression onto the world stage of international showjumping. He successfully competed in many World Cups and international competitions and was invited to participate in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. However, feeling that the stallion needed to concentrate upon breeding duties, Wiepke declined the invitation --- in hindsight an excellent decision. What a breeding stallion he became, eventually earning the prestigious title of Stallion of the Century!
Nimmerdor's progeny have consistently proven themselves many times the world over. Nimmerdor has sired over 50 approved sons, an unparalleled feat. He also produced over 100 international showjumpers, dressage horses, and many highly predicated offspring.
He lived to the ripe old age of 31, and passed on peacefully at home in his ¨royal suite¨ at the VDL Stud.
Undoubtedly Nimmerdor was one of the best sport horse sires ever and his influence will be felt for many years to come. With the likes of World and Olympic Gold champion Hickstead, the legend of Nimmerdor carries on. Nimmerdor was, and forever will be, in a class all of his own.
